To the Pursuit community,
We are heartbroken and outraged by the recent acts of violence and hate in Atlanta. The murders of eight people, including six Asian women, are a painful reminder of the systemic racism and misogyny in our society.
Unfortunately, the tragedy in Atlanta is not an isolated event. In the past year since the beginning of the pandemic, in addition to ongoing harms against Black and immigrant communities, there has been a significant increase in violence towards Asians across the country. Gender-based violence, particularly against Asian American women, continues to rise. And the increasing anti-Asian rhetoric has escalated the existing tenor of fear and xenophobia.
This loss of life comes at a time when we are continuing to confront institutional racism, sexism, and violence against communities of color, immigrants, women, members of the LGBT+ communities, and individuals with disabilities among the many marginalized populations we celebrate as valued members of our communities. We stand in grief, support, and solidarity as we continue to fight for racial, social, and economic justice.
We recognize the impact these events have on our staff, Fellows, and the greater community. If you or anyone you know are interested in AAPI processing/healing circles, please reach out to Caroline Oh or David. Amanda Nazareno has also suggested the following resources listed right.
In solidarity,
Pursuit
