"A Small Way to Give Back"

Thank you to volunteers from Google, Uber, Mastercard, Lyft, Tracer, Xand, Packet, Guggenheim, PDT, along with the Pursuit Fellows and Pursuit team members who volunteered to help us choose the 72 stellar Fellows who will comprise our upcoming 7.0 cohort.

A special shout out goes to Henry Lu of Consultant at Boston Consulting Group, who put in more hours than any other volunteer. At 20 hours, Henry volunteered almost a full day!

“Pursuit is an incredible organization that helps New Yorkers with the most talent and need fulfill their potential,” Henry says. “As somebody who is a first generation immigrant, my family relied on support from the local community growing up. Volunteering for Pursuit is just a small way to give back by helping others in the same way, and to support a mission that will both improve individual lives and help the tech industry become a more diverse, multi-faceted, and welcoming place.”

Another big shout out to the many current Pursuit Fellows who volunteered on the Transformation Review Crew. Fellows who racked up the most volunteer hours were:

- Cameron Rivera (6.3): 14 hours

- Gregory Keeley (6.3): 12 hours

- Christian Hurtado (6.3): 10 hours

- Jocelyn Boyd (6.1), Luba Kaper (6.3), Maria Martinez (6.4), Neema Philippe (6.1), Rafid Hossain (6.4): 8 hours each

“There is no feeling quite like being a member of a good community, one that’s supported by people and values,” says Cameron, who recently landed a role as an apprentice engineer at Pinterest. “I grew to love the feeling of being a member of a community. To me, it is only natural to want to better the community that helped me grow.”

The Heart of Pursuit

From the beginning, Pursuit has been powered by tech industry professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to our community. And for good reason. Tech industry professionals bring real-world experience, knowledge of the field, and industry connections to help our Fellows and our organization achieve success.

Our volunteers are involved in every step of the Fellow journey:

- Identify talented candidates for the Pursuit Fellowship

- Work one-on-one with Fellows as mentors

- Provide feedback to Fellows on the projects they present at Hackathon, Technical Showcase, and Demo Days

-Share their expertise as guest speakers and workshop leaders

- Help to shape our curriculum

Volunteers have and always will be at the heart of what we do at Pursuit. Thank you again to all our volunteers!
