When Amazon made the decision to pull its planned HQ2 out of our neighborhood of Long Island City, we were disappointed. As long-standing leaders in the local community and the designated community partner and co-developer of HQ2, we were excited to partner with Amazon to connect our Fellows — adults with high need and potential — to the amazing career and economic opportunities the company was bringing to our city.

We believed that through this effort, we could advance our long-term vision: to create a thriving tech ecosystem that’s inclusive of our diverse community. We still believe this is possible.

That’s why I joined civic, business, and tech leaders from across New York in signing an open letter (see letter below) to Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos asking him to revive his plans to bring 25,000 permanent jobs — jobs that could transform the lives and families of people in our community — and $28 billion in new tax revenues to New York. We urge everyone to support this effort and sign a petition published by our friends at the Partnership for New York City.

We are confident that New York has the best talent in the world. We also know that we can deliver life-changing prosperity to members of our community. Let's demonstrate to Amazon and other innovation companies that New York is a city where they can grow and thrive.
