Our Volunteers Shape the Future of Tech by Selecting Newest Fellows

600+ Fellowship applications reviewed. 289 applicants were taught HTML/CSS/Javascript in virtual coding workshops. 162 prospective Fellows interviewed. 118 volunteers who made it all possible.

In May, we selected 72 new Fellows for our 8.1 and 8.2 classes!

These driven individuals made it through our application, assessment, workshop, and interview stages to be admitted to the Pursuit Fellowship. Our rigorous and selective admissions process would not be possible without the volunteers that make up our Transformation Review Crew. These volunteers from our partners, as well as Pursuit staff members, Fellows, and supporters, are deeply dedicated to our mission and provide much-needed support to our Admissions team to identify and evaluate prospective Fellows for each new cohort.

We invite our partners, staff members, Fellows, and alumni to participate in our admissions process as they have the professional experience and perspective to help us choose the best candidates. Pursuit Fellows will be our future peers and colleagues, so who better to help select them than the members of our community? The Pursuit Fellowship goes well beyond learning to code. Similarly, our volunteers bring a variety of technical and non-technical skills and industry knowledge to the Transformation Review Crew.

Our Partners Show Up to Volunteer

We partner with companies to fundraise for Pursuit, allocate job opportunities for our Fellows, and create roadmaps for their career success. And we collaborate with community-based organizations with complementary missions to spread word of our Fellowship and recruit applicants from diverse and underserved populations.

Our partners are also some of our best sources of volunteers. They’re committed to finding prospective Fellows with the most need and potential because they value the transformation we enable—for individuals, communities, teams, companies, and even industries. They share our vision of a tech-driven economy that’s more accessible and inclusive. And they show up to make it a reality!

Our sincerest thanks to these companies and organizations for supporting the Transformation Review Crew. Blackstone, VTS, Greenhouse, JW Player, Salesforce, Spero’s Hope, Lyft, New Profit, and PDT Partners each contributed volunteers to power our admissions process.

We are especially grateful to the 12 volunteers from Blackstone, the 10 volunteers from VTS, and the 8 volunteers from Greenhouse who helped carefully determine which of our applicants had the most potential as aspiring engineers. These companies prioritize volunteering and we could not be more thankful for their generous support.

"[Volunteering for Pursuit] allowed me to meet hardworking and driven individuals who haven't had easy access to the same opportunities as the rest of us in tech and I'm excited to see where their ambitions take them!"
Gary Thung, Entrepreneur, South Park Commons Reviewed 25 candidates across all three admissions stages!

"It is a privilege to watch the Fellows take their first step in becoming software engineers. As a Pursuit volunteer, witnessing the Fellows' determination and dedication to achieving their dream inspires me to never give up on my dreams."
Caroline Nguyen, Operations Research Manager, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Reviewed 29 candidates, participated in all three stages and recruited her colleagues to volunteer!

Pursuit is Powered by Volunteers From the beginning, Pursuit has been powered by tech industry professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to our community.

Industry professionals bring real-world experience, knowledge of the field, and networks of valuable connections to help our Fellows and our organization unlock tech careers and economic transformation. Our volunteers are involved in every step of the Fellow journey:

  • Identify talented candidates for the Pursuit Fellowship

  • Work one-on-one with Fellows as mentors

  • Provide feedback to Fellows on the projects they present at Hackathon, Technical Showcase, and Demo Days

  • Share their expertise as guest speakers and workshop leaders

  • Help to shape our curriculum

Volunteers have and always will be at the heart of what we do at Pursuit. Thank you again to all our volunteers in tech!
